the mountain(s)

there are two skiing mountains in whistler - whister and blackcomb. they are right next to each other, and are both huge. whistler mountain was "discovered" for skiing as part of an unsuccessful winter olympic bid in 1968. they've finally had a successful bid - olympics here in 2010. blackcomb was opened in 1980 i think. as mentioned, both mountains are gianormous, about a vertical mile of skiing on both, gondolas that take like half an hour to get up (and that's only halfway up a mountain)...

i've been boarding about 3 times now. conditions have been variable. for the first week it rained solidly in the village, and the snow was slushy on the lower mountain. then the other day it was snowing heavily while i was boarding, and it snowed right down in the village yesterday which was cool. i'm still not too flash at the boarding, but have plenty of time to learn and the luxury of just going up when i feel like it with the season pass.

ok must get lunch and head back to work now, more about that another time...
