happenings

• walked around stanley park yesterday. its very nice, and was a beautiful sunny day. there is a sea wall that goes right round the outside, 10km filled with runners, cyclists, dogs and roller bladers. the cycle/blading path is one-way only!
• took the sky train down to the last stop. there are only two lines, and the trains are small, but its pretty cool because its overland and you get a good view of downtown etc. there are quite extensive suburbs too (2 million people afterall), which are similar to downtown with more not-quite-as-high glassy high rises.
• saw king kong last night. its overly long and overly sentimental (hmm, were there some other movies by peter jackson that fit this bill?). pj sure knows how to do good monsters, they looked very convincing, but were a bit undermined by the succession of blatently improbable/impossible action sequences. experienced an interesting cultural difference - when pre-buying the tickets:

ticketchick: "you might want to come 45 minutes or an hour before it starts"
g *bewildered*: "um, why?"
ticketchick: "to queue"
g: "ah... to queue for what?
ticketchick: "to get a seat"
g: *still confused* "ah, yeah thanks"

• ...when we got there at 8pm, people were standing in line (with books etc) for the 9:15 session! no kidding. the explanation apparently is that there is no allocated seating and it's peak season. people are willing to queue and hour plus for good seats. at the movies. weird.
• heading up to whistler on wednesday. got an interview at whistler-blackcomb resort. will be there for xmas - a proper white one :)
