santa fe

stayed 3 nights with my master's thesis supervisor dean and his wife caroline. they have a cool adobe house 15 mins out of town. lucy (another lecturer from canty uni i worked with) and paul were also here for the first couple of days. the landscape here is deserty, although not so much sand and large cacti as dirt, scrub, and assorted small-medium cacti. the sky is a beautiful blue with cotton-wool clouds. they have coyotes too, we heard them howling.

we walked around town a few times and visited some good art galleries. santa fe has just tons of art, much of which is native american. we also went for a walk up the hills, played with their cute dog, and i got to drive dean's new and bright yellow corvette :)

last phase of the trip will be mainly outdoorsy - petrified forest, grand canyon, yosemite, and the california and oregon coasts up to seattle...
